But I thought the customer was always right regardless! At least that's how I was trained. Pathetic!!!

NO complaints !

I find it odd that your website only gives the option to "file a complaint". Seems a little negative, don't you think ? . . . In fact, I am praising a manager Frank and an assistant Jim at your Elgin, IL. store. On Saturday we purchased some wicker furniture and the assistance provided by both men was very commendable. First was Frank who moved the furniture to our vehicle and then, when I returned a faulty rocker back to the store, there was Jim who switched out AND assembled the replacement rocker for us before loading it into our Jeep. In an era when quality customer service occurs rarely, and reluctantly, we offer our appreciation to both gentlemen. They represented Big Lots in a most favorable light. P.S. You should remove the word "pissed" from your review verbiage. It's offensive. Makes Big Lots look bad; very unprofessional. The address you provide for our praise is www.pissedconsumer.com . . Really? Wow . . .

Shen you start paying for web hosting and employee wages, then you can complain about the setup of the site. Until then, there are many general consumer feedback sites to choose from.

This one just so happens to be for pissed consumers. Got it?

Probably because pissedconsumer.com is not affiliated with biglots in any way. Email talk2us@***.com.

It's under the contact us section of the biglots website. There is even a toll free number for corporate.

Guest

Hey listen! PissedConsumer is not affiliated with Big Lots nor the other way around.

This isn't Big Lots' website and doesn't put a bad mark on them.

What you actually want to do is contact Big Lots from their website. Customer compliments DO get passed down to the store level.

Trying to find the right place to submit a complaint is no easy task

Went shopping at the Elk Grove, CA location today. From now on I will not leave until I check my receipt very thoroly. Time after time I get charged for at least one item twice. Today it was a 12 roll package of toilet paper. Didn't notice it until I got home. It is a hassle going back every time to correct the situation and a hassle to stand there and check your receipt. Please train your cashiers to be more aware of what they are charging for. I would like my refund of $5.00 plus tax sent to me.

Complaining here isn't going to do you any good. You have to go to the Big Lots web site.

This is just a general complaints site.

In the meantime you can't be real smart to post your name and address on a public site. Hopefully you get all kinds of crank mail because of that.

Big Lots - Cashier Review from Knoxville, Tennessee

Biglots#1244 Knoxville,Tn..I had to deal with a cashier today that was terribly rude and obviously having a bad day. Didn't get her name but this is her ID #161****.beware if u go thru her line. you will know when you get her..believe me.I'm contacting corporate because I would really hate for some little old lady or man to have to deal with her. This was rediculous and I can't believe they hire people like her and keep them. This gives big lots a bad name. My whole family has stopped shopping there now because of how I was treated by her. The worst experience I've ever been thru in my 47 years.Horrific!!!

Big Lots no longer accepts their own credit card.

I got a credit card thru Capital One for Big Lots to purchase a bedroom suite and help build up my credit score. I've had the card less than a year and now they do not accept it.

I wrote Big Lots who directed me to Capital One who told me they decided "to part ways". I now have a credit card I can't use which will lower my credit score or I have to close the account out which will also lower my credit score. Capital One told me I couldn't use the card anywhere else.

What to do? Bummed here!

What credit score do you need for a big lots card?

Guest

Your a ***, the card is a credit card right! Has either a MC or Visa logo Im sure!!

The card can be used anywhere, just like my sears card I have through Capitol One, I can go to the gas pump and oh wait, it works just fine!!!

Last I checked sears doesn't own or market for any gas companies!!

No, it is a store card only, cannot be used anywhere now that Big Lots does not accept it. At least have your facts straight before name calling.

You're an *** Not only shouldn't you be calling people names, AND know wth you're talking about, but learn how to spell at least!!

Guest

There was a three months notice about the credit program being dropped, but yeah your entire issue is with Capital One rather than Big Lots.

Not a fan of Capital One anyway. Outrageous APR when other companies offer less and don't send enough offers that it could count as harassment.

Guest

The decision to discontinue the Big Lots card was made by CapitolOne not Big Lots.

Workers are being treated like slaves and hours are being taken

My family and I are frequent shoppers at your Bigots located Greenville almost every week. However, I’m sending you this email to inform you what I have encountered while shopping at your bigot’s store. Your bigot’s stores at 609 Greenville NC 27834 mangers are very mean, rude and hard on your employees they treat them like dirt, especially your black employees. You have this manager whose name Terry that never does any work but she is always picking and trying to run your employees and other hard workers off their jobs. Head managers are taking hours from employees that have been working for your company for a long time. Mangers are working your employees for a small amount of hours and are expecting three times work I think it is trouble what is allowed to go on that this big lots establishment I'm going to send a copy of this compliant to U.S labor board because employees showed not have to endure bad treatment. Slavery day are over. You employee should have a right to work and make a living just like your managers. Fact is that if it wasn't for your lower level employees you would not have a store in Greenville because you mangers aren’t doing anything but walking around breaking the wipe, fussing at each other starting trouble because they know that your employees isn’t going to say anything out of fear that Mark will take their jobs. You guys need to send head officials to these stores to see what is going on with your workers because you are responsible for their welfare. From a concerned Citizen

Nice that we have the right to voice our opinion but far too often this is done without knowing all the facts! I have shopped there and found management and Terry to be very friendly and helpful.

It was a pleasant experience. Everyone has bad days so before anyone posts something negative, maybe you should stop and ask yourself why you are doing it. I will continue to shop there regardless of other customers and their narrowminded views on what someone may or may not be doing.

I like Biglots and all of its employees! :grin

Yeah what she said!! By the way I am do somewhere with the hate!

Guest

First off the managers only do as the head owners over them tell them to do!! As had being a manager over a store simular to it (roses) if the managers didn't give less hours or anything for that fact then they get fired they only do as head people say to do and as for Terry she does an excellent job!!!

Guest

Oh and you said my anonymous posting I don't know if you noticed or not but you're posting anonymous as well. You also said "I'm really obvious too" ....too <---- You just told on yourself.

Maybe if you tried typing stylistically different than your original complaint it would not be so apparent. Clearly you have some personal reason to hound this post.

Guest

You just proved my point... -_- ***.

I'm not even from NC you'd known that had you looked and saw where I was from. And I'm sure you just typed in a different city and state to make it seem like this is a different person. You're so overrated right now! I don't understand why you people are so mad.

So what if he/she is a bitter employee it's really none of your business...

unless it's about you. which I'm sure it is otherwise you wouldn't be so salty.

,)

Guest

"Bigots" "mangers" I laughed.

You're not a "concerned citizen," you're a bitter employee that seems to think PissedConsumer is in any way related to your company. It's not.

And your anonymous posting in the comments is really obvious too.

In before I'm one of the people you're complaining about: not in the same state bucko.

Guest

First off this person never said anything about the managers doing the Cashiers, stockers, etc. work.

All she/he said was that Terry was mistreating the employees, managers are taking hours, The employees are being under payed for all their work, and that the managers are expecting perfection from their over worked employees. secondly: What does spelling have to do with the subject at hand, which is the fact that the employees are being mistreated. Thirdly: you're lying managers do not get 20 hours a week. Where I'm from my managers get well over 30 to 40 hours a week.

So I suggest you get your fact straight before you start making comments. Fourthly: How dear you tell someone to keep their nose out of it.... Really judging by the way you speak I'd say you're an employee. Terry or Mark please correct me if I'm wrong!

I think this is Mark/Terry online trying to excuse their rude behavior. This site is up specifically for this person to make her complaints. Not for you guys to be rude to them and make them feel even worse. You're some disgusting people.

Fifthly: You said and I quote "you are one of the colored people being treated unfairly by these managers." One the way you said colored people was very racial. Whatever happen to Black or African American. This is so Obviously Mark/Terry because why would some random person get this upset over something some random person posted on some random site. I think Terry/Mark should spend less time online and more time running their store.

Maybe then they won't have people online making complaints in the first place. That and be better people to not only your employees but your customers as well then maybe you won't have to get online to see who's saying what about you.

Guest

Slavery days are supposed to have been over for many years, but what do you call it when people have to work for minimum wage? In case you aren't aware of it store managers do have other things to do besides the things that the cashiers, stockers, etc.

are hired to do. Aren't managers supposed to make sure the other employees are doing what they were hired to do, if not who is supposed to do this. If the managers didn't do it, things probably never would get done. How are the managers treating the employees rude, mean, etc.?

You really should be more specific. Maybe even concentrate on improving your spelling, and grammar. Most employees in retails stores/restaurants/fast food places don't get more than 20 hours a week for little more than minimum wage. This country needs to pass a living wage law, instead of minimum wage.

Apparently you have no idea how managers run businesses or else you are one of the colored people being treated unfairly by these managers. You might be surprised by how often the head officials make un-announced visits to each business. If you work there, you might not even be aware of who these people are.

Until you know all the details of how a business is ran, you should keep your nose out of it.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-761002

I call it a job, perhaps they should've gotten job skills that allow them to get a position that pay more than minimum wage. No "living wage", minimum wage jobs are not supposed to support a familiy, they are supposed to be for students or homemaker or others who cant or won't work full time but want some income. Every time minimum wage goes up the amount of jobs goes down.

Corrupt store manager at store #1016 in York pa

Angie Moses came to the York pa store and destroyed it. She is the worst manger the store has ever had. She lies to your face and gossips about store associates behind there backs. She knowing has allowed employees to work when they are visibly high or drunk. She also knows of one employee that steals on a regular basis and ignores it. She gives out her user name and password to everyone to use to do her work for her. Everyone does the CSS position but do not receive the proper wages for it. As a store manager she is to work 50 hours a week. Angie comes in late, leaves early, schedules herself to be at the store alone. She tells everyone she has no hours to give us and keeps cutting back our hours when that is not the case, she is sitting on extra hours each week. She has just used employees vacation and floating holiday time when they don't want to use it or haven't ask to use it. She doesn't allow the employees to take there 15 minute break while she takes a SMOKE break every 15 minutes ! She even pulled one female employees hair. She has temper tantrums like a little kid and is constantly talking ignorant to her staff. The store gets money to have a nice party for the employees at thanksgiving and Christmas but we didn't see anything. She probably kept the money for herself. If you have been with the company longer than her, which is most of the staff, she treats you like dirt, but if she has hired you you can get away with anything, she will just look the other way. She promised the furniture manager 40 per week until he took the job then she denied ever saying that. The woman is a control FREAK !!! Store sales are down but that doesn't surprise me. She instructs everyone not to tell if we witness anything any of the other employees are doing wrong. The list goes on and on but no one has fired her yet.

Sounds like you are an employee. Posting this information on a website is not going to help.

Try calling your store's employee hotline to report issues. Should have a poster with the number in your breakroom.

Guest

Awe did someone make you actually work that day?

Guest

When you got the job there you went through some training and mention of two things: the open door policy and the in company hotline (the latter's information should be found in the break room). If you cannot sit down and talk with your district manager, call the hotline and go the anonymous route.

They will look into it however, and fraudulent use of the latter will get you fired. Otherwise this website isn't going to help you change anything.

Guest

who ever you are signing in as anonymous makes you as bad the person you are complaining about. If you want things to change have the guts to put your name to your complaint.

I agree with Mike 100%. The way I look at is when somebody complains about managers it means that the individual doing the complaining isn't doing things right and therefore isn't a favorite.

Let's face all bosses have favorites. That is just human nature.

And I lost the receipt and was given a store credit but I really need another tablet for my son.they gave me in store credit which will be good if I shot a big Lots a lot but I don't I came for that purpose of giving my son a tablet. Even though I have it on my credit card statement where I purchased the tablet they will not allow me to refund my money so what am I to do what to tell my 4 yr old son. always fun sorry the store said they didn't have anymore so we have to use this 78 dollar gift card for something else but that's not what you really want it and I'm so sorry.

Most stores will give you store credit without a receipt. So, you have your credit card statement....

It does not say what you bought on that purchase. That is why you should keep your receipts.

Store credit is better than being completely refused anything.

Guest

what four year old needs a tablet. how about sending the little rug rat outside to play

Just because you have unintelligent mouth breathing kids, doesn't mean everyone does. Some 4 year old kids use math and reading apps on tablets. Not everyone locks their kids outside so they can watch Maury, smoke, and drink.

can you dispute the charge with your cc company? Sometimes they offer extra protection.

Guest

AFAIK, they sold out of tablets over Xmas and aren't getting any or many more in? Kind of annoying, especially in this case. Even if you'd lost the receipt, if you paid with a credit card you still had time to look up the receipt info, which is what they ought to have done.

The various broken systems are irritating.

Consider calling the customer service number.

Rude manager with a severe attitude!

My daughters and I went to Big lots in Shenandoah, TX this afternoon to buy an outdoor umbrella. The checkout girl did not know where they were so she called the manager who was VERY rude to one of my daughters when she was explaining where we got the ticket to purchase the umbrella. When the manager brought the umbrella out, my daughter told her we had already paid for it. I also told her and she asked if I had a receipt. I was standing about two feet from the checkout counter, and I asked her if she thought I would say that if I hand,t paid. She told me she didn't trust anybody!! I was offended!

Guest

For starters, "dont no nothing" is a double negative. Second off the old clechet of the customer is always right isn't always true.

Stores from all retailers these days are understaffed, corporate has to manage the controllable expenses to keep share holders at bay from one year to the next. Payroll unfortunately is one of the first expenses targeted. The poor economy that we created, not the govt, has caused us to rethink spending. If you went into a Big Lots and looked at your savings VS competitors even Walmart you might would have a smile on your face and instead of the grimace you had when entering the store.

Coming from upper management of several retailers I can tell you it's going to get worse and people should not walk into a store with the attitude that anyone owes them anything. Instead be delighted you were greeted and spoken to, and were able to purchase your items well below retail value. It sickens me to see all this negativity on this site, pity you had to add your bad experience that was probably provoked by your own actions in the first place.

Every Big Lots I've EVER been in, employees have been curtious and helpful. I don't mind waiting a few extra minutes to check out when I know I'm saving 15-40% off retail value and helping someone else beat Sam Walton out of a buck!!

Terrible Rewards Program...even Worse CS Dept Policy

We called today corporate CS Tel number for detailed info on your new Rewards Program since no one at your local Big Lots Store in Evans GA could explain it. We have spent over $1000 this year at your Evans Store but have yet to receive any "reward points or additional discounts. We also started shopping at a Big Lots in So FL. When we called today we spoke to a CS Rep named "Britney" who explained we had only shopped 4 visits since the new rewards program...and any rewards were based on FREQUENCY of visits...NOT total amounts spent. We asked she lodge a complaint for us since that sounded ridiculous to us as customers. Even more ridiculous, was that when we called back and spoke to another CS rep and asked to speak with a Manager...we were told that she had no one else we could talk with since MANAGERS DO NOT SPEAK WITH CUSTOMERS... REALLY? Well THESE CUSTOMERS will no longer be shopping at BIG LOTS and will be informing their friends and family of their experience with your new Rewards Program.

Big Lots has recently changed their Rewards program. Prior, when you spent $20 for each of ten visits, you would receive a reward for 20% off your total purchase once withing 60 days or so.

Now, no one at our local stores can really explain how it works, tho I have received an email with a $5.00 off my purchase of $20 or $25 total purchase valid on specific dates. These came in the weekly emails they send. You might keep an eye on what they send you and make sure they don't go directly into your spam folder.

But, I agree with you regarding their inability to explain exactly how this new Rewards thing works. Apparently not just the local employees are clueless, but corporate as well.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of John N Mzy

The new rewards program was really poorly implemented, in my opinion. Corporate can't explain it, not to customers, and not to employees.

As an employee, I can't explain it to my coworkers, nor customers. I've read through the information at least ten times, and it still doesn't make sense.

I don't necessarily think the old rewards program was better, but the lack of communication for the new one is terrible.

If you're referring to the $10 off bounce-back coupon (had that ugly green color on thick cardstock), it explicitly said on the coupon that it was invalid with any other coupons (including itself), rewards discounts, etc. I read the fine print on all coupons thoroughly for this reason.

This specific a complaint is better taken to the actual company, Pissed Consumer is not affiliated with them in any way.
