Big Lots- Where There's Junk In Every Isle
The building is in dire need of renovation. Leaking roof, bad plumbing.
The store looks old and outdated. The location I was referring to is in Desoto, Texas.
If you want sub-par quality items, then this is the store for you. Words to describe their merchandise: cheap, stale, bug-infested, dented, rusty, poor, flimsy to name a few.
I can't say how many times I've bought headphones from them and in months they break. I've even bought a measuring cup from them and in a few months the handle broke. No ...I'm not heavy handed and I take good care of my belongings, their products are just cheap. That goes for their furniture as well.
I wasn't just a customer, but a former employee as well. I've witnessed customers complaining about missing screws, damaged parts, poor quality....and obviously it's true because the same issues were said about their furniture at other locations as well. I can't see how some people think this is a great store, which says a lot about them. There's nothing wrong with searching for bargains, but quality shouldn't be compromised for "a good price".
And looking at some of the shoppers, some of them wouldn't know quality if it walked up and introduce itself. Plus some of the customers were rude and ignorant and just plain cheap. But what do you expect from a location thatโs on the borderline near the hood? Sub-par also describes the employment.
Like most retail companies, expect favoritism, politics, bureaucracy, over-stressed managers, overworked/underpaid employees, a high turnover rate. You'd think that a big company like Big Lots would pay their employees more money and offer more hours. For a cashier, the starting pay is $8.00 an hour. Nevermind if you have experience on your resume'.
Also they seem to hire for mostly part time positions unless one is applying for management. There were times they had me only scheduled for 4-8 hours for the week. They highest amount of hours I've had was 29 and that's if someone called out or if we were understaffed. On average, I'd have at least 15-21 hours a week.
Favoritism played part in training. Most of the training was done through a computer, which is impersonal, with an unreal expectation of full understanding of your applied position after completion. If there was any personable training, it wasn't much. More like a mention here and there.
Don't count on management being thorough. They'll even get mad, think you're *** or look at you crazy if you say you don't know. If they liked you and you kiss their *** they may take you under their wing and show you the ropes. As for the staff, all three managers played favorites and were two-faced.
If youโre a worker that minds your business, speaks your mind and not an *** kisser, theyโll treat you like the plague. The Store Team Leader was a miserable, fat cave *** that doesn't know how to communicate with people. Regardless if she was stressed out by upper management, had health or personal issues, that doesn't give her the right to talk to employees any kind of way. Both the Assistant Team Leader and Merchandise Manager were a couple of coons that played by the book and did as they're told.
The Leads and workers were a bunch flip floppers and often coming or leaving, due to various reasons. Usually with low income jobs, they mostly harbor individuals with limited options or skills. This job is not even worth taking as a second income, if you're looking to make extra money. And it is not a job you would consider as a career, just something to help get you by until something better comes along.
The only good thing I can say about Big Lots is the 20% employee discount.
Overall, working for Big Lots is a joke and I wouldnโt recommend this place to my worst enemy. Well not this location, anyway.
Reason of review: Bad quality.
Big Lots Cons: Low pay, Low hours, Environment, Management, Low quality products.

My husband worked in their Columbus warehouse. He found an entire pallet about 5 feet tall full of toothpaste that had expired in 1969! Beware of food, beauty & health items...check expiration dates before purchasing.
You seem pleasant.
I am pleasant, I just don't like working for *** companies that don't respect their employees.
They may be a *** company. And it's the equivalent of a fast food restaurant in the retail world, so I doubt they are attracting the best workers in the world. But, if you want anyone to take a complaint seriously, try to cut out the cuss words and the pettiness.
You must be with damage control.
